INFOMANIA at InSpace, Mexico City. A SPIME.IM immersive exhibition.
From the 26th of September 2025 at InSpace, and in the MUTEK MX 21 agenda.
An overwhelming flow of information is silencing our thoughts. Or are we developing new abilities – adapting, recalibrating – to perceive massive amounts of data? If you can resist the sound and visual overload that is waiting for you in the following passages, you might just be ready to survive the present age of infobesity. In INFOMANIA, the first solo show by SPIME.IM, the artists have digested a massive stream of data, images, videos and sounds, fishing in the sea of information entropy, to construct a visual and sonic architecture that invites the viewer to face a ritual passage. We leave behind the era when images could serve as legal evidence, when media events were experienced in sync with other humans, when symbols held fixed meanings, and faces mapped to coherent or familiar entities. We enter a hall of mirrors where everything you see may have been generated to steer your intentions, where autonomous agents seduce you with indispensable charm, where a swarm of stolen data – yours and everyone else’s – invades your senses, eroding your ability to find meaning in what’s around you. You think you know how to escape. But do you, really?
The five works that make up INFOMANIA – Silenzio, AI Conversation, Uncanny Kind, Zero Degree and Infomania – might pull you into the uncertain floors of hell, but could ultimately open a path into the templar forests of imagination: every dataset, every image, can be shaped and ultimately owned again.
